In 2008, we established the Shwe Oae Distillery in Yangon, marking a significant milestone in our journey. This new facility represented a major advancement in our production capabilities, allowing us to enhance both the quality and diversity of our beverages. With its increased capacity and modern technology, the Shwe Oae Distillery enabled us to meet growing consumer demand and set new standards for excellence in distillation.

Production Process

At Shwe Ohh Distillery, we take pride in crafting premium spirits through a meticulous production process that ensures the highest quality and finest taste. From selecting the finest ingredients to aging with precision, each step is designed to create a truly exceptional experience.

Malting

Stage 1

6–9 Days

Our process begins with carefully selected barley grains, which are steeped in water and allowed to germinate. This transformation activates enzymes that convert starches into fermentable sugars. Once the optimal stage is reached, the barley is dried in a kiln to halt the germination process, ensuring the perfect foundation for our spirit.

Mashing

Stage 2

6–8 Hours

Our process begins with carefully selected barley grains, which are steeped in water and allowed to germinate. This transformation activates enzymes that convert starches into fermentable sugars. Fermentation

Stage 3

2–4 Days

The wort is transferred into fermentation tanks, where carefully selected yeast is added. Over several days, the yeast ferments the sugars, producing alcohol and unique flavor compounds. This process results in a liquid known as wash, with a low alcohol content, ready for the next stage.

Distillation

Stage 4

1-2 Days

Distillation is where the magic happens. The wash is heated in copper pot stills, allowing alcohol and flavor-rich compounds to separate from unwanted elements. Through careful distillation, we capture only the finest portion of the liquid—known as the heart cut—which defines the purity and character of our spirit.

Aging

Stage 5

At Least 2 Years

The distilled spirit is then placed in high-quality wooden casks to mature. Over time, the spirit interacts with the wood, absorbing rich aromas and flavors while developing its signature smoothness. The aging process is closely monitored to ensure the perfect balance of taste and aroma.

Bottling

Stage 6

1-2 Days

Once our master distillers determine that the spirit has reached its peak maturity, it is carefully filtered and bottled. Each bottle of Shwe Ohh Distillery spirit is a testament to our dedication, craftsmanship, and commitment to excellence.
